While many residents enjoy the benefits of having rainwater tanks for garden or laundry use in conjunction with town water connection. Most rural families depend entirely on their rainwater tanks to keep things flowing at home. Without proper maintenance and like most things around the house, water tanks and the systems connected to them will begin to have problems. 

Generally, tanks that are inspected and cleaned every 2-3 years as per the water safety guidelines last many years without fault.
